Editor’s Review:
I gave this movie the time of day only for kate’s sake. Its touted as a scary movie. To me it seemed more like something a lady can read in the afternoon over a cup of tea. Thrills, scares, ghosts all so in moderation and in such non dramatic fashion that you can leave it without even a thought. The house where the non action takes place has the nice colonial touch that the movie requires. Hudson looks as angelic as ever. The end was intriguing. The director seems not very sure if the movie should be an out and out superstition based thriller or a psychological one. He tries a Manoj N. Shyamalan I think, in whose movies the idea presented to the audience causes the fear and he builds the tension till almost the end where everything is revealed well with great closure. The director of Skeleton key succeeds in the building of the denouement but the actual ending seems such an anti-climax. After having used reason throughout the movie he insults the audience with the end. Fine enough viewing though.
